Since Sunday, April 24, residents of several districts of the Cul-de-Sac plain, in particular the Butte Boyer area, have been taken hostage by the "Chen mechan" and "400 Mawozo" gangs who are speak the powder. These two armed groups, which are violently fighting for control of these areas, have already caused numerous victims among the civilian population. More than six days later, the government is not saying a word.
In a first provisional report published on Wednesday, the Civil Protection Department reported more than 20 people killed in the ranks of the civilian population, more than a dozen houses burned down and dozens of displaced families. Clashes between the gangs were still continuing on Friday, April 29 for control of the Butte Boyer area, residents of this neighborhood reported to Le Nouvelliste.
Until Friday, April 29, no human rights organization could still visit the neighborhoods where clashes between the “Chen mechan” and “400 Mawozo” gangs took place. For the moment, they are relying on the provisional assessment of Civil Protection. Some residents of the affected neighborhoods point out to the newspaper that the bandits burned the bodies of those killed, that other bodies are thrown into latrines. “It is impossible to know the number of people killed in the attacks of the 400 Mawozo gang,” said a resident of Butte Boyer.
About a week after these gang attacks on the population of the Cul-de-Sac plain, the government has not yet spoken. The Prime Minister, who launched Friday, April 29 the activities of celebration of the day of agriculture and labor, continues to speak of security as being the priority of his administration. However, in his speech, Ariel Henry did not, at any time, refer to the situation of tension and crimes in the Cul-de-Sac plain.
“The country is currently experiencing an unprecedented situation, against a backdrop of multiple and complex crises where everything is becoming urgent to address. However, there is no magic formula. It is only through work and unity that we can change the situation. It is imperative that we, Haitians, get to work to embrace a national conscience, to educate the population, to create wealth, to find together the path of change and progress,” the Prime Minister said.
“Today,” he added, “all sectors of national life have their say, their part to play in providing elements of a solution to a security climate favorable to progress. »
"We are going to redouble our efforts to achieve the eradication of insecurity, which is becoming the government's priority in order to facilitate political stability, with the corollary of attracting investment and leading to the creation of massive jobs in in order to achieve the holding of honest, inclusive, transparent and democratic elections", promised the tenant of the Prime Minister's Office.
The head of government thanked the police who, he said, are making a lot of effort to restore peace in the neighborhoods.
The National Police, for its part, says it is carrying out operations in Butte Boyer to regain control of the area. However, the situation is still very tense and residents of this neighborhood stranded at home continue to call for help.
